One thing that Ive been sensitive to is the vim redraw speed and particularly when I use the letter j for example to scroll down in a large program a line at a time. Someone syncs Carbon Emacs with the upstream tree quarterly I think. I can't speak to the extensiveness of the included elisp packages, either.
